New Year's Resolutions : 1|3|16

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog, and once again Happy New Year! I hope everyone is having a great day and a fresh start to the new year. Now that the new year is upon us, I thought I would share my New Year's resolutions with you all. Of course I have some of the generic resolutions like everyone else has but I'm trying to better myself in all aspects of my life so some resolutions may seem small and trivial, but I think they will improve my overall self-confidence and help myself on beginning to truly love myself. Without further ado, here are my New Year's Resolutions!

1. Eat cleaner and drink more water- I know this sounds like a basic resolution that everyone chooses, but I do need to take better care of my body because as cliche as it may sound, you only get one so you better make the most of it.

2.Get out and exercise more- I want to make a point of going out everyday for a walk. Whether it be just around the block, or walking a couple of miles, I think it will be good for me to just be alone with my thoughts. I also want to start a challenge or possibly join the Tone It Up community and improve my overall health.

3.Read more books- I used to read all of the time. I recently received the book, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert from my boyfriend for Christmas and I plan to start reading it this week. I want to read more books about improving yourself and finding your inner creativeness. I think and I know reading will improve my knowledge and learn about new things every day.

4.Appreciate more- I just want to be more grateful for what I already have. I often get down on myself because I am nowhere near where I want to be, but that is okay. I am on a journey to achieve my dreams. I have to realize it takes time to achieve your goals, but they are attainable. I want to appreciate my family and close relationships more, I want to appreciate everything that I already own, and I want to appreciate myself more and realize that I am doing the best that I can.

5. Start a YouTube Channel- This is my most terrifying resolution and I am finally going to pursue it. I have wanted to start a YouTube channel since I was 15 years old. I am now 23, and I think I am ready to start creating content that I want to share with the world. I am terrified of the hate and negativity, but I hope the happiness and positivity outweighs the bad. Here's to sharing my creative side in 2016!

Enjoy!
xo,
Meg

New Year, Fresh Start | Weekly Favorites: 1|1|16

First off, Happy New Year! I hope this year brings love, fortune, and prosperity into each and everyone of your lives. I am grateful for my health, my family, my boyfriend and my friends. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for them. I want to be honest and write this beginning snippet to sincerely apologize for my absence on my blog. I haven't felt inspired and didn't want to just post anything. I needed time to myself to work through my struggles and become inspired again. With that being said, I decided to start this new year off with a fresh start and a clear mind. I wanted to share with you some favorites of mine and have decided that every Friday, I am going to include my weekly favorites. As some of you may know, my biggest inspiration and role model is Mimi Ikonn. For those of you who do not know her, she is an entrepreneur, dreamer, and creator. I look up to her in everything and anything that she does. I follow all of her social media outlets, and I recently have been hooked on her blog. As I was scrolling through, she has also started a weekly favorites post and I look forward to seeing it every week. She has inspired me so much, as much as to start my own weekly favorites posts. Without further ado, I present to you my weekly favorites:

Enjoy!
xo,
Meg

Favorite Song:

You'll see why this is my favorite song if you read through the rest of this post;)

Favorite Television Show:

Jessica Jones. This show is amazing! If you haven't seen it, you definitely need to go watch it. It is a series on Netflix. It will not disappoint ;)

Favorite Drink:

My favorite drink this week was the Sugar Cookie White Hot Chocolate from Tim Horton's. I think the name speaks for itself!

Favorite Quote:

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
-John Quincy Adams

This quote resonated with me because I want to be the change people wish to see in the world. I want to inspire others to become what they want to be and inspire them to follow their dreams.

Favorite Food:

There's a restaurant where I live that my boyfriend and I go to pretty regularly. They have amazing food and I can't get enough of their salmon dish. It is a teriyaki glazed salmon served over a salad of greens, apples, fresh figs, strawberries, dried cranberries, and orange-amaretto vinaigrette. Yum!

Favorite Video:

Mimi Ikonn is a creative genius. How could I not include her in my first weekly favorites if she was the one who truly inspired me?! She puts out amazing content and more of the world should know about her!

Happy New Year!
2016
Let's make this year an unforgettable one!

Love,
Meg

Q & A with Rachel from Copper & Kohl : September 27, 2015

Hello everyone ! Today's post will be a question & answer post that I have collaborated with another fellow blogger. This particular blogger has a career in the makeup industry and started in the film and television industry. She then got started in the company Bobbi Brown where her career has lifted off. She also freelances on the side and holds personal makeup parties to help women with their makeup skills and help their improve their techniques. This blogger and makeup artist's main goal is to make women happy and feel good about themselves. This blogger's name is Rachel and she runs the blog and business called Copper and Kohl. I have asked Rachel a few questions and she has kindly answered them for me. As always, I hope you enjoyed this post. Here are the question and answers !

Question #1:
How did you get started with a career into the makeup industry?

Answer:
I was lucky enough to know a makeup artist through a mutual friend who worked in the film and TV industry. I then started my makeup school course and she got in touch with me and got me working as her assistant.

Question #2:
What made you want to do makeup and become a makeup artist?

Answer:
I never had a lot of interest in doing makeup on myself. When I left school, I was working for a photographer just helping out in the office and I got to watch a lot of makeup artists’ work. I think I liked more how it made women feel when they looked good and there is a feel good quality in making another woman feel good about herself.

Question #3:
How is it working for Bobbi Brown?

Answer:
Bobbi is an amazing brand because the philosophy is all about women looking and feeling like the best version of themselves; I can relate to that. I love the products and learned a lot working for Bobbi. It has definitely played a huge factor in my makeup career.

Question #4:
Do you enjoy doing freelance work or do you prefer a more set schedule?

Answer:
I like freelance work because it gives you the variety you want. I like choosing my own schedule because you could be doing a wedding one day and be on set the next. I like to have the variety because it keeps the passion for makeup alive.

Question #5:
What is your biggest challenge as a makeup artist?

Answer:
Lugging my kit everywhere! I’ve tried to minimize my makeup so many times, but then I just end up adding to it again. I really do need it all!

Question #6:
Do you see yourself continuing to do makeup in the future?

Answer:
Absolutely. Makeup is a skill and is something I could always do even if it was an on the side thing or just a freelance thing.

Question #7:Tell us a bit about your blog and what services you offer through Copper & Kohl.

Answer:
The blog is actually still in the making at the moment, but I offer a few different services. My services range from bridal makeup to special events to balls to onset. I am also offering workshops which would be like a makeup party. The party must have a minimum of 6 people and we do some demos and teach the women some key makeup tips, not necessarily a full face. Alternatively, I do one on one lessons where I would go through what the client is currently doing with their makeup and maybe update their look and advise on what products to keep, throw away, or replace.

Question #8:
What is your favorite go-to makeup look?

Answer:

For myself, I can’t go wrong with a black eyeliner flick, mascara, glowing skin, eyebrows, blush, and a neutral
lip. On clients, it would entirely depend on what the individual was after.

Question #9:
Can you give any advice to someone who is wanting to start a career in the makeup industry?

Answer:

You will never know it all. I love that I am constantly learning from other artists.
There will always be a new tip  or technique to learn. Go for it, be creative, and make it your own!

Question #10:
What are your top 5 must-haves in your makeup bag?

Answer:

1  Lip balm, foundation stick, eyebrow pencil, bronzer, and cheek color!

Enjoy !

Meg
